I’m a business and intellectual property attorney, and a literary agent. I specialize in start-up companies, technology and literary law, and help businesses and creators reach their goals by advising them on how to protect rights and prevent legal problems. I believe in a holistic, efficient approach to legal counseling, and strive to be a trusted long-term advisor my clients can turn to any time they need help.
I have my own practice focusing on business and legal advising, negotiating and drafting contracts, intellectual property (copyrights and trademarks), and literary law. I represent authors as both an attorney and an independent literary agent. I’m currently working with authors Marsha Aizumi, Jennifer Graham, Brandy Mychals, Shirley Streshinsky and Patricia Klaus, Michael Bush, Kevin Hines, Zach Friend, Ann Todd Jealous and Caroline Haskell, Dianne Aigaki, Suzanne Toro, Maggie Lamond Simone, and Jerry L. Hughes.
I was General Counsel for Moviola and its affiliated companies, Paskal Lighting and Magnasync, for 14 years. My background is in the entertainment and communications technologies areas, and I’ve also done work for apparel companies (Indah; The 15 Dollar Store; Shaun Tomson’s Solitude) and natural food products companies (Rock-n-Roll Gourmet).
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Comparative Literature, and went to law school at the University of San Francisco School of Law. I was an extern for Hon. Robert Takasugi, U.S. District Judge for the Central District of California, and worked in the City Attorney’s Office in San Francisco.
I’m a voracious reader of everything: books, blogs, websites, newspapers, and magazines. I’m fascinated by the evolving publishing industry — especially the business/legal/technological issues around the transition to digital content and distribution.
I love to run, and have completed four marathons: three in LA on the new course, and the NYC Marathon in 2011.
I’m a native Angeleno now living near the beach with my husband and two daughters.
